Shri Sitarm Yechury, Member, CPI(M) Polit Bureau and Rajya Sabha MP has written to the Chairman, Rajya Sabha today requesting that MPs be permitted to donate part of their MPLAD fund for relief and rehabilitation work in Jammu & Kashmir. The full text of the letter is being released herewith.

Respected Chairman Sir,

 

I am writing to you with a request that MPs who are very concerned and agonized with the plight of people in Jammu & Kashmir in the aftermath of the unprecedented floods that have ravaged the state feel that they may be permitted to send a part of their MPLAD fund to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation needs. 

 

It has been the usual practice that such a direction is given whenever major national disasters destroy lives and property in various parts of the country. Following this practice, I would request you to please instruct the Rajya Sabha Secretariat to permit us to donate part of our MPLAD fund to assist the relief operations.

 

As is the practice, the Secretariat may decide the upper ceiling of such donations that may be permitted. 

 

I sincerely request you to consider this request urgently.
