The barbaric action of the police against an ailing leader who is an MLA for eight terms and a former Minister in the Left Front government deserves the strongest condemnation. The BJP government in Tripura cannot evade its responsibility in this matter.
Such actions will not suppress the CPI(M) nor tarnish its image as the people of Tripura know very well the exemplary and honest record of the Left Front government. The CPI(M) will fight the case against Badal Chowdhury both legally and politically.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the continuous attacks on the CPI(M) offices and the leadership in Tripura by the BJP-led state government.
In this continuing spiral of violence against the CPI(M), on December 28, Gautam Das, Secretary of the Party’s Tripura State Committee along with Ratan Bhowmik, MLA were waylaid and attacked at Bishalgarh town, while they were returning from Mirza, Udaipur. A few days earlier the same gang of miscreants had attacked former Minister and current Chairperson of the PAC, Bhanulal Saha.
The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the action of the BJP state government of Tripura in cancelling the registration of Daily Desharkatha, a progressive newspaper.
These attacks and anti-democratic stance of the ruling party is typical of the situation that is prevailing in Tripura ever since the BJP government came into office. Even collection of money for humanitarian relief is subjected to attack.
The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement:
Given the grave situation in both these states, the Central Committee decided to hold a national level protest against the murder of democracy in the states of West Bengal and Tripura in the month of July.
The Central Committee congratulated the LDF government in Kerala for the manner in which they could contain the dreaded Nipah virus from spreading. The efforts of the state government have earned accolades from international agencies including the World Health Organisation.
